Halloween Adventure Review

I have to admit, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I'm not sure if it's the amazing fall colors & weather or if it's the gobs & gobs of candy I usually have lying around my house, but I love it!

When I got the chance to review a costume from Halloween Adventure this year, I was so excited. I browsed their huge selection of toddler costumes in search of the perfect one for The Bambina and I was blown away when I found this Elmo costume:

It was love at first sight! The Bambina is obsessed with Sesame Street right now, and points out "Melmo!" on everything we see at the store. My hubby agreed it was the perfect choice for her and we couldn't wait for it to arrive.

The shipping was super fast, and the day the box appeared on the porch, The Bambina and I immediately ripped it open to try it on. I instinctively grabbed the camera, knowing there would be some excitement. As soon as I zipped her up I walked her into my bedroom so she could get the full effect in my long mirror. You should have seen her face! She was in awe of herself! She was actually Elmo!

Every day since then, she brings me her costume, holds it up and says: "On! This!" So we put it on and go look in the mirror again, and she giggles and giggles and giggles. And if a visitor at the front door happens to (accidentally) ask her what she's going to be for Halloween...we repeat the whole routine for them as well.

Before I ordered I pulled out my measuring tape and measured The Bambina's waist, chest & inseam. Then I used the sizing recommendations on each costume's page to find the proper size to order, and it fits just perfectly!

The costume quality is amazing. Elmo's fur feels just like a real Elmo, and there are smart elastic bands to help keep the hands and feet in place. I really love that she'll be able to wear tennis shoes under the costume as well without anyone seeing them.

Halloween Adventure is a fantastic stop for all of your Halloween needs. They have a huge selection -- nothing at all like you can find at a store around town -- and they've got costumes for the whole family (including the preggos!) I love the idea of not being limited to the five costumes the nearby supercenter has left on their rack. If you can think it, Halloween Adventure has it. I can't wait for the day when my hubby will someday let me dress our whole family as a theme. (The Incredibles or The Flinstones, anyone?)

If you're stumped on what to be for Halloween this year, or you haven't been able to find that costume that just speaks to you, go check out Halloween Adventure. They've got something for everyone!

Right now Halloween Adventure has 50% off economy shipping when your order totals $50+, and you can order all the way up until October 19th and still have it arrive in time for Halloween! (Or, if you're like me and your great ideas come to you last minute...you can order up until Friday, October 28th at noon and choose rush shipping to still get your costumes for Halloween!)

Emergency Essentials Food Storage Analyzer Review (and $30 in free gift cards for bloggers!)

Chalk it up to my current nesting tendencies, but lately I've been feeling a really strong need to get our family's food storage in order. I feel like just yesterday we were a family of two and now we're about to be a family of four! Yikes! How did that even happen?

It made me start thinking about first making sure our 72-hour kits were in order (which they weren't), and then start evaluating our food storage situation. I ordered freeze-dried 72-hour kits for my birthday present this year, and then began taking inventory of how much wheat, oats, water, etc I have stored in our basement.

Emergency Essentials has a cool (free) online tool to help you evaluate your food storage needs. It lets you input how many people are in your family, including their ages, and spits out how many calories you will need daily to feed your family during an emergency. So smart! I love this feature for families with kids, because their diets can be hard to estimate.

Then it takes you to a page where you can input what food storage you already have, and what you plan to buy. As you do this, the results chart in the sidebar updates how many days of food storage you will have for your family, based on the recommended calories for your family size. It also has a nutrition chart showing what nutrients you're getting from the food you've inputted so you can see where you're lacking. So cool!

Sometimes planning your food storage can seem overwhelming, but I really liked the use of this tool. Go try it out HERE and see what you think!

Gift Card Giveaway

Listen up, bloggers! You can get a free $10 gift card from Emergency Essentials for adding their button to your blog (details HERE), for adding their Food Storage Analyzer button to your blog (details HERE), and for reviewing their free Food Storage Analyzer (details HERE) -- for a total of $30 in gift cards. You can also receive a $20 gift card for writing a guest blog post (details HERE).

Little Gentleman's Closet Review & Giveaway (2 winners!)

I have a fun giveaway for you today! The Little Gentleman's Closet, a Utah-based company, is giving away a tie of the winner's choice to two lucky readers!

The owner, Michelle, told me a little bit about how The Little Gentleman's Closet got started. She says, "I started the Little Gentleman’s Closet because I was frustrated with the lack of clothes for little boys. Even at Easter, I had a hard time finding something cute and dressy for my boys to wear. I was also tired of going to boutiques and craft shows and seeing nothing for little boys. I love to sew, so it was the perfect way for me to combine my old job (middle school home ec teacher) with my new job (stay at home mom). I hope that my shop will give moms with little boys more to choose from than dump trucks and dinosaurs!"

The Little Gentleman's Closet features ties & bowties for all boys ages 6 months to 9 years, so there's a little something for everyone. Plus, her tie colors & patterns are to die for. (Seriously, not a single dinosaur to be found!) Oh, and did I mention she sells sewing patterns? You can sew your own if you'd like!

Slavetosave's Review
I had the chance to review two matching ties from The Little Gentleman's Closet with the help of two of my cute nephews. The five year old was having one of those days when we tried to take his photo, but luckily the 2 week old was uber-cooperative. :)

Okay, how cute is this tie? He's wearing a 6-month size, so he's got room to grow but it really fits him great! Plus, this was a fun way for my sister-in-law to create a matching Easter ensemble for all 3 of her kiddos with very little effort! She centered the idea around a cute dress she found for her little girl, and then got these 2 ties to match. Voila! The perfect Easter outfits.

What I love most about The Little Gentleman's Closet:
  • The variety of fun tie colors & patterns! They are so perfect for spring.
  • The clasp system is genius! It's simple to adjust and fasten, yet the child cannot pull on the tie and loosen it. (No more sagging zipper ties in the middle of church. Yipee!)

Win it!
Little Gentleman's Closet is giving two lucky readers each a tie of their choice! (Just in time for Easter!)

New Grains Gluten Free Bakery -- Review

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, there is a new gluten free bakery in Provo called New Grains Gluten Free Bakery. I had the chance to go visit the bakery, meet the owner Nicole & try some products! It was a really fun experience.

This is the owner, Nicole, standing in front of the high-tech ovens in the bakery. (The bakery is all brand new and seriously amazing.) I asked Nicole to tell me a little bit about her family's history, and how they got started with the New Grains bakery.

Nicole told me how her husband was sick for many many years, and doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong. It was so bad at one point that he was on oxygen and walking with a cane at age 40! Finally, after going to clinic after clinic, a friend suggested he be tested for Celiac's Disease. Nicole, her husband and all seven of her children went to be tested, and the results were shocking. Her husband, as well as five of their seven children all had a gluten intolerance!

This is where Nicole's journey began, and she started experimenting and finding ways to bake the breads & desserts her children loved but without the gluten their bodies couldn't tolerate. She said it took a lot of time and a lot of mistakes, because gluten-free baking isn't as simple as substituting rice flour for wheat flour. You can end up with very dense baked goods! But now Nicole has refined her methods into some amazing bread & cookie recipes that taste delicious -- I honestly couldn't tell they didn't have wheat flour in them!

I was able to sample the Multigrain Bread, Cinnamon Raisin Bread, Sugar Cookies and Brownie Poppers. The multigrain bread was fluffy and delicious, and made great sandwiches & toast.

I made French toast with the Cinnamon Raisin bread, at Nicole's suggestion. Wowee! I'm a sucker for cinnamon raisin bread any day of the week (...and french toast too, I suppose), and this was amazing. The bread had a crisp outside with a fluffy inside and a texture just like bread I'm used to. I'm not gluten intolerant but I would so buy this bread again just to make french toast. Amazing!

Next I tried the sugar cookies. I frosted them with some store-bought cream cheese frosting and they were perfect. They were crispy & crunchy, with a yummy texture and tasted just like they looked -- delicious.

I'd like to say I tried the Brownie Poppers last, but I'm pretty sure they were half gone by the time I got home from the bakery. I just couldn't resist! They come in a perfect bite size, which pretty much ensures you'll eat a bunch of them. They were slightly crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside, just the way I love to eat brownies. Again, the texture & flavor were great. If brownies didn't go straight to my thighs, I'd buy these again too!

Overall, I was very impressed with New Grains Gluten Free Bakery. Nicole began baking as a necessity for her family, and is so passionate about helping children & adults lead normal lives with Celiac's Disease that she's started this amazing bakery to help make others' lives easier. What a noble cause! Their products are local and delicious, and I can't wait to contact my local grocers to get New Grains products in their stores!

Reminder...
Right now New Grains Gluten Free Bakery is marketing to local supermarkets, so they can carry their products and be purchased in-store locally. If your local supermarket doesn't carry New Grains products and you think it should -- let them know!

If your local supermarket does carry New Grains products, you can print 3 great coupons right now at Valpak.com to use when you purchase them! Score!

Disclaimer: This was an unpaid post and all opinions here are expressly my own. I received 4 bakery products to review prior to this post.

CSN Stores Review

I got the chance a few weeks ago to do a review for CSNstores.com. I had a hard time choosing an item, because they carry so much! Ultimately I chose a white noise machine -- the Sound Spa from Homedics.

The Bambina is a super light sleeper. I've heard from other moms that this is common with a first child, because they are used to the house being quiet while they sleep (since there are no other siblings). She such a light sleeper that I can't do dishes, blowdry my hair or even open the front door while she sleeps. So I thought a sound machine might be able to help me be more productive while she's napping!

I'd read some reviews on various sound machines, and most of the baby ones said the main complaint was that they don't go loud enough. So far I have LOVED the Homedics Sound Spa. It has plenty of volume! I only turn it up about a quarter of the way, and it's plenty loud. Plus it has six sound choices (rain, heartbeat, ocean, summer night, waterfall and rainforest). They are all very natural and soothing sounding, but I use the rain most frequently because in my opinion, it has the least amount of distracting noises in it. (It's most consistent.) The Sound Spa also has a timer, so you can set the machine to turn off when your little one falls asleep. I don't use this feature because my daughter doesn't have trouble falling asleep (...it's the staying asleep that's tricky). But I could see it being a useful feature for others.

So the big question is -- does it work? So far, I think so! I've been able to do some dishes and cooking the last few weeks without The Bambina waking up prematurely, which is great. I feel much more productive, and I know she's getting the sleep she really needs! I'd definitely recommend this Sound Spa if you're looking for a white noise machine.

Stitcheroos Review & Giveaway! {closed}

Slavetosave Baby Shower Bash Giveaway #41:
Stitcheroos!

Stitcheroos, a Utah-based company, has grown by leaps and bounds since it's beginnings. Owner Adrienne Nielsen's mother, Charlotte, has been an embroidery seamstress for years. In the past Adrienne would come up with great gift ideas and beg her mother to create the fun gift items for her.

In 2007, the mother-daughter team decided to open their own business. In the beginnings Stitcheroos didn't even have their own embroidery machine so they were very limited in the designs and items that they could create, but they still LOVED creating gifts for others! Eventually Adrienne was able to purchase Stitcheroos' first embroidery machine and things really began to take off!

Adrienne now does the designing/digitizing while two employees do most of the embroidery. Stitcheroos has come to specialize in newborn baby gifts as well as First Birthday outfits and other special occasion clothing. At Christmas time Stitcheroos helps create many Christmas gifts in the way of monogrammed bags of all kinds.

Slavetosave's Review
Stitcheroos was kind enough to send me an embroidered and personalized hooded towel to review! I had the baby's name and initial embroidered on the towel in pink and brown, like the one below. It is absolutely adorable! Plus the towel is soft and plush. The high quality of the embroidery would make this a gorgeous gift for any new mom!

Bebe Au Lait Review & Giveaway! {closed}

Slavetosave Baby Shower Bash Giveaway #40:
Bebe Au Lait!

{Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover in Capri}

When Claire Ekelund gave birth to her second daughter in 2003, she was proud to be an active nursing mom but recognized that, once again, nursing in public was going to be challenging. Like many nursing moms on-the-go, Claire was quickly reminded of how difficult it is to gracefully feed a wriggling baby and hold a blanket in position. She searched high and low for a solution, but found that nursing covers on the market at the time were clinical, impractical, and difficult to find. Leaving the room to feed Baby in privacy seemed the only alternative, yet this was not always an option.

{Ruffle Hooter Hider Pouch in Nest}

Claire decided to create her own nursing cover, the Hooter Hider (dubbed so by an outspoken male friend): an easy-to-use, machine washable, multi-purpose stylish cover designed with Baby and Mom in mind. The difference between the patent-pending Hooter Hider and other nursing covers is the rigid neckline allowing Mom and Baby unobstructed eye contact during feeding and other thoughtful features such as a small-item storage and clean-up pocket made from the softest terry cloth. Keep up with new developments on the Bebe Au Lait blog!

{Bebe Au Lait Nursing Cover in Marmot}

Hooter Hiders was an immediate sensation and gained overnight publicity and fame. Highlighted in popular magazines such as US Weekly, People, Fit Pregnancy and VanityFair.com and owned by Hollywood mommies Gwen Stefani, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Liv Tyler, Mira Sorvino and Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Hooter Hiders were in demand!

{Pocket Hooter Hider in Aero}

Slavetosave's Review
Bebe Au Lait was kind enough to send me one of their new Siena Ruffle Hooter Hider nursing covers to review! The first thing I loved about this nursing cover was the cute pouch it came it, which is so convenient when tossing your nursing cover in the diaper bag. I also LOVE the ruffles along the boning neckline and hem. (Seriously, why did we never think of adding ruffles before?) It adds the perfect feminine touch. The Hooter Hider has an easy-to-adjust neck strap, and it provides a perfect amount of coverage on the sides. I'm so excited that I'll be able to go out in public and nurse discreetly when this baby comes, thanks to my Hooter Hider!

Beibi Shoes Review & Giveaway! {closed}

Slavetosave Baby Shower Bash Giveaway #35:
Beibi Shoes!

As parents of infants and toddlers, the owners' inspiration for Beibi and WeeSqueak shoes was watching their children in these shoes. They discovered these little gems while in China adopting their oldest daughter, Chloe.

However, during the adoption of their youngest daughter, Ellie, they had the idea to bring some shoes back for their friend's children. Their company, WeeSqueak, was born! "We are fun parents, with fun shoes for fun kids!"

Beibi shoes was kind enough to send me the Taylor Light Pink baby shoes to review! I am in love with these shoes already. They are very well-made, with cute pink corduroy, leather, and a molded rubber sole. The sole has great texture on it so I don't have to worry about my little one slipping in them. The cute heart buckle adds the finishing touch to these adorable shoes. I can't wait to put them on her when she gets here!
