Safe Sleep Checklist - Protecting Your Baby from SIDS

From now until Mother’s Day, Halo Innovations is running a campaign on Facebook to spread the word about ways to protect babies from SIDS.

There’s no better gift for Mother’s Day than peace of mind that your baby will sleep safely. This is why Halo is encouraging all caregivers to learn about safe sleep by taking a Test Your Safe Sleep IQ quiz and by sending Safe Sleep Tips to their friends.

  • Place baby to sleep on his or her back at naptime and at night time.
  • Use a crib that meets current safety standards with a firm mattress that fits snugly and is covered with only a tight-fitting crib sheet.
  • Remove all soft bedding and toys from your baby’s sleep area (this includes loose blankets, bumpers and positioners). The American Academy of Pediatrics suggests using a wearable blanket instead of loose blankets to keep your baby warm.
  • Offer a pacifier when putting baby to sleep. If breastfeeding, introduce pacifier after one month or after breastfeeding has been established.
  • Breastfeed, if possible, but when finished, put your baby back to sleep in his or her separate safe sleep area alongside your bed.
  • Never put your baby to sleep on any soft surface (adult beds, sofas, chairs, water beds, quilts, sheep skins etc.)
  • Never dress your baby too warmly for sleep; keep room temperature 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Never allow anyone to smoke around your baby or take your baby into a room or car where someone has recently smoked.

Game Deals @ Walmart

I was at Walmart yesterday to pick up a few things when I decided to walk down the game aisle, since I had a bunch of game coupons in my binder from a few weeks ago. I stumbled across a few good deals! Monopoly Deal was on rollback to $4, and I found travel-sized versions of Hungry Hippos and Battleship! (I actually think the travel version of Hungry Hippos is great for little children, since the small pieces are all contained.)

$4.00 Monopoly Deal
$5.24 Hungry Hippos
$5.24 Hungry Hippos
$5.24 Battleship
$5.24 Battleship
-$5 Monopoly MFQ
-$4 Hungry Hippos MFQ
-$4 Hungry Hippos MFQ
-$4 Battleship MFQ
-$4 Battleship MFQ
= $3.96 + tax

I told the cashier that Monopoly was only $4 so he could adjust the coupon down but he didn't have a problem with putting it through for the full value. So I paid only $3.96 + tax for five games! Not a bad deal!

If you have a few game coupons lying around that you printed a few weeks ago, go check out Walmart!

Monday Drugstore Deals

I'm a little slow on my Monday drugstore deals this week. But it took me 3 days and 3 transactions to finish my deals this week, in order to qualify for the Buy-$25-get-$5 P&G SCR #77 at Rite Aid.

Transaction #1:
$7.99 Tide Stain Release

$11.99 Huggies
-$5/20 RAQ
-$1 Tide MFQ

-$11.99 Free Huggies MFQ
= $1.99 + tax

Transaction #2:
$7.99 Tide Stain Release
$7.49 Olay Body Lotion
$2.29 Crest Toothpaste
$1.49 Clearance Candy x 2
-$5/20 RAQ
-$1 Tide MFQ

-$1 Olay MFQ
-$1 Crest MFQ
-$1 Seasonal Candy RAQ

= $11.75 + tax

Transaction #3:$7.99 Tide Stain Release
$8.99 Gillette Fusion Razor
$1.44 Pringles
$2.50 Kashi Cereal
$1.24 Lifesaver Jelly Beans Clearance x 2
-$5/20 RAQ
-$1 Tide MFQ
-$4 Gillette MFQ
-$2.50 FREE Kashi MFQ
(vocalpoint, I think?)
-$1/2 Jelly Beans MFQ
-$1 shaving RAQ

-$1 seasonal candy RAQ

= $10.40 + tax

Overall I spent $24.14 out of pocket, and I'll get back $17.99 in rebates ($7.49 Olay MIR, $1.50 Crest SCR, $4 Gillette SCR, $5 P&G SCR). So it was like I spent $6.15 + tax for all of this stuff -- and I really needed the Tide Stain release! (This baby is pooping me out of house and home...seriously.) Overall I saved $51.49 or 88%.

Go HERE to see more great deals at Rite Aid this week.

P.S. Has anyone else tried the Lifesaver Jelly Beans and thought they were nasty? Ew. The Starburst ones are waaaay better. Good think I only paid $0.25 per bag!

McCall's Patterns $0.99 each @ JoAnn's (4/11 - 4/17)

A few weeks ago I was at JoAnn's and I found some really cute corduroy fabric on the remnant shelf for super cheap. Since one of my new year's resolutions was to be more crafty, I decided to buy it and make the Bambina a jumper out of it.

I sat down at the pattern books and found a really simple jumper pattern. When I pulled it out of the drawer, to my surprise the pricetag for the pattern was $15.99!

$15.99? Who pays that much for a pattern! Needless to say, it was left there. I figured I'd wing it and make due.

So I was really excited when I looked at my JoAnn's ad for next week and saw that all of the McCall's Patterns are $0.99! Limit 10. I'm totally heading there.

March Spending Totals

I did it! It's only month three of 2010 and I finally made my goal. I stayed under $100 this month. I even did some stockpiling of diapers, shampoo, and other toiletries -- mostly at Rite Aid. The biggest expense this month was impromptu grocery trips where I didn't have time to match up coupons. Minimizing these always boosts my budget.

I also started buying baby food this month because my pediatrician gave us the go-ahead to start the Bambina on solids. But I found a great post on my friend Devrie's awesome blog called Bite Rite, about how to make your own baby food. I'm so going to try this in April!

Spent in March: $96.92
Saved in March: $503.40 (84%)
