Wellness+ Points Calculation

I've figured out how the Wellness+ points are calculated! For anyone who is using their Wellness+ card regularly and trying to get up to 500 points and the 10% discount, here is this lowdown.

You get one point for each dollar spent before manufacturer's coupons and Single Check Rebates, but after any Rite Aid coupons, Video Value coupons (including the $5/20), and Wellness+ coupons. Clear as mud?

Here is an example:

$6.00 Tide Laundry Detergent
-$1 MFQ
= Pay $5.00 + tax
(You will get 6 points for this transaction)

$6.00 Tide Laundry Detergent
-$1 RAQ
= Pay $5.00 + tax
(You will get 5 points for this transaction)

If the Tide detergent in the above example also had a $1 Single Check Rebate, you would still get points as listed above, since points are awarded before rebates.

So the best way to rack up the points quickly is to buy items that are free or low out-of-pocket cost after manufacturer's coupons or rebates. So the CoverGirl and Carefree deals from this week would both be great for this, since they are free after MFQ this week!

April Spending Totals

Sooooo, I was a little bit over budget this month. Okay, a lot over budget. I'm looking through my spreadsheet trying to figure out where the biggest spending chunks ended up.

  • I took advantage of a few caselot sales in April to stock up. Love those caselots!
  • The Bambina had a major meltdown with the homemade babyfood, so I've been continuing to buy storebought for a while. Hopefully that will end soon!
  • I ran out of prenatals (which are sort of expensive) and had to buy more. Luckily I found a decent deal and stocked up enough to last me for another 9 months or so, so that will be off my spending radar for a while.

The biggest chunk this month, however, was spent on impromptu grocery shopping trips when I took dinner to someone in my neighborhood spur of the moment and didn't have time to match up coupons. (See? The planning makes a huge difference!) But it feels good to help other people, and as a mom I know sometimes having a meal brought in can be such a blessing!

So I don't mind going over budget in this way. I keep my spending down on things I need enough to be able to help others out with things they need. Definitely a win-win.

Spent in April: $138.28
Saved in April: $423.17 (75%)

How did you all do this month?

I ordered one of these using lots of pictures of the Bambina last time Walgreens had them free, and I hang it on my bulletin board at work over my computer. It's a fun way to have lots of pictures of my little one around, without actually having to deal with numerous photos. I love it!

Letter Carrier Food Drive (5/8/10)

Just a reminder that the Letter Carrier "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive will be happening this Saturday, May 8th. Now would be a great time to go through your pantries and pull out & donate any food you won't be able to use before expiration.

Find out more information about the Stamp Out Hunger food drive HERE.

Last year this food drive collected over 1 million pounds of food in Utah! Let's do it again this year!

Tylenol & Motrin Recall -- Infant & Children's

McNeil Consumer Healthcare has announced a voluntary recall of certain over the counter children's products, stating that there is a possibility that some products included in the recall may contain a higher concentration of active ingredient than is specified. Others may contain inactive ingredients that may not meet internal testing requirements, and others may contain tiny particles.

While the potential for serious medical events is remote, the company advises consumers who have purchased these recalled products to discontinue use.

Full list and press release HERE.

  • To find out if your product has been affected, go HERE and enter the NDC number located on the label of the bottle above the brand name.
  • If your product has been affected, go HERE to request a high value coupon or refund.

*I just discovered the Tylenol I've been giving the Bambina after she gets her shots each time we go to the doctor is in this affected group! Ugh. :( On the bright side, a free product coupon will make for some great deals at Rite Aid once it arrives.

Rite Aid Update - Ad Discrepancy

When I begin working on the Rite Aid weekly deal posts on Sunday mornings, it's usually via the laptop while nursing the Bambina at 6 am. I pull up the online circular for my zip code and begin scouring it.

This week we discovered (thanks to Colleen!) a discrepancy between the online ad and the actual weekly circular that arrived in the newspaper. This has never happened before!

The online ad lists a $3 Motrin RAQ and a $3 Thermacare RAQ on page 4 that are missing from our circular.

I called Rite Aid corporate (1-800-RITE-AID) to find out what the deal was. I spoke to Connie, who said there happened to be a discrepancy which was a mistake, and these coupons were not meant to be listed in our area. Since there is no way for them to actually get us these coupons to use at the store, she offered to mail me a $5 Rite Aid gift card for my troubles! (And those of you who shop Rite Aid know how far $5 can go.)

If you were planning on purchasing the Motrin or Thermacare this week (like I was), call Rite Aid corporate and they'll take care of you!
