Smith's Shopping Trip

The Fort Union Smith's near me had a grand re-opening this morning. It's not usually the Smith's I visit on Wednesdays, but I figured I'd pop down there and check it out, since they had free breakfast fixings for the first 300 customers, and I needed to pick up a few things anyway.

Transaction #1:
$2.00 Quaker Instant Oatmeal x 5
$0.50 Libby Vegetables x 4
$0.95 Babyfood x 6

-$1 shortcuts yogurt MFQ

-$1 Quaker MFQ x 4

-$0.75/6 Babyfood MFQ

-$0.55 Reese's MFQ x 2

-$2.50 Free Yogurt MFQ
= $17.16 + tax
(Saved $37.67 -- 68%)

Transaction #2:
$2.00 Captain Crunch x 5
-$5 instant savings
-$3/5 MFQ

= $2.00 + tax
(Saved $10.95 -- 84%)

The Quaker sale was fantastic, and the breakfast freebies were a great snatch as well. I love taking oatmeal to eat for breakfast on the days I work, and I've been out (shocking, I know) for a few weeks. But I just couldn't bring myself to pay full price because I knew they'd go on sale! I'm so glad I waited.

I made some homemade carrot babyfood last week to give to the Bambina. The night I tried to feed it to her, she had an absolute meltdown and hated it! She was screaming and arching her back and throwing a tantrum, which is so unlike her. I ended up sending Chris to the grocery store right that second while I calmed the girl down and waited for him to come back with some storebought. I don't know what her deal was, but we're going to stick with Gerber for a bit. So I had to pay for the real deal today, but at least I had a $0.75/6 coupon, lol.

The Smith's store itself was amazing, amazing, amazing. I hope they remodel all of the Smith's stores like that! If you're nearby, stop and check it out.

Total spent for April: $52.93
Total saved for April: $125.30 (70%)

What to do when you've got too much? Donate!

So if you've caught the coupon-shopping bug, you may have a closet or two full of random cold medicines, cleaners, razors and creams. Sometimes when you deal shop, you have to buy things you don't need in order to get items you do need for free. And sometimes you end up buying food in groups of tens or twenties in order to get discounts, even though you could never possibly eat it all yourself!

Don't panic! There is help for your exploding closets and pantries.

What do you do with unwanted or extra food, toothpaste, shampoo, cold medicine, lotions, diapers, etc? Donate them of course! I always drop my extra toiletries at the YWCA, because it's close to where I work so it's convenient for me. Donating is a surefire way to make you feel even better about the way you shop. Helping others while helping yourself is definitely a win-win.

Rite Aid Wellness+ Program Opens Nationwide (4/18/10)

Starting Sunday, April 18, the Wellness+ program opens Nationwide! Wahoo! So get online and make your Wellness+ account HERE, so your card can get in the mail to you.

What is the Wellness+ Program?
It's a card that can be scanned at the beginning of each purchase to earn you loyalty points for every dollar spent at Rite Aid -- including 25 points per prescription!

What is the benefit?
Members-only sale pricing (sort of like a Smith's Fresh Values card), 10% off Rite Aid brand products every day, and 24/7 exclusive access to a pharmacist when you call 1-800-RITE-AID.

What do my points earn?
  • For every 125 points -- a one-time 10% off shopping pass (up to 375 points)
  • 500 points -- 10% off all non-prescription points purchases everyday
  • 500 points -- free health screenings
  • 1000 points -- 20% off all non-prescription points purchases every day
(*Points are per calendar year)

What are CRT's & +UP Rewards?
When you use your Wellness+ Card, you will often get Wellness+ CRT's that print at checkout on the bottom of your receipt -- sort of like catalina coupons at Smith's. So buying certain items will trigger coupons valid on other related items.

When you use your Wellness+ Card and buy specified items, your +UP Rewards will also print at the bottom of your receipt, as a CRT.

How Do My Points Accrue?
You get one point for each dollar spent before manufacturer's coupons and Single Check Rebates, but after any Rite Aid coupons, Video Value coupons (including the $5/20), and Wellness+ coupons. Clear as mud?

Here is an example:

$6.00 Tide Laundry Detergent
-$1 MFQ
= Pay $5.00 + tax
(You will get 6 points for this transaction)

$6.00 Tide Laundry Detergent
-$1 RAQ
= Pay $5.00 + tax
(You will get 5 points for this transaction)

If the Tide detergent in the above example also had a $1 Single Check Rebate, you would still get points as listed above, since points are awarded before rebates.

New Rite Aid Wellness+ Coupons

Rite Aid just released some new Wellness+ coupons! These expire 5/1/10.

  • $3 off any purchase $15+
  • $2 off cosmetic purchase $2.99+
  • $2 off vitamin purchase $5.99+
  • $2 off cold/allergy purchase $2.99+

The cold/allergy coupon will go great with the Allergy Rebate (SCR #552) items this week!

$5.29 Sudafed x 2
-$2 in-ad RAQ x 2
-$5/2 MFQ (RP 4/11)
-$2 cold/allergy RAQ
= $0.42 profit!
(*Buy $50+, get $25 RA GC!)

Each person who has a fresh values card and submits a design will receive a credit for a FREE reusable shopping bag on their card!

  • 4 Finalists will receive $250 Kroger GC
  • 1 Grand-prize winner will receive $1,000 Kroger GC and could see his or her bag design sold in stores!
Slavetosave's Review
I designed my own reusable bag today! It was fun and super quick. The online tools were creative and easy to use, and you even have the ability to upload your own photos or gr
aphics to be used in your design. My favorite part of the whole process is the ability you have to order your bag at the end of the design!

Kroger has partnered with Cafe Press so that you can order your reusable bag design as a grocery tote ($12.99), apron ($16.99), Sigg water bottle ($24.99) or hat ($11.99)!

Smith's was nice enough to send me a $25 American Express gift card from their One-Stop Gift Card Shop so that I can order my own bag design from Cafe Press! Sweet!

Win it!
Smith's has generously offered one reader a $25 Cafe Press gift code so they can order TWO of their own reusable bag designs for FREE!

Mandatory Entry:
  • Leave a comment telling me your favorite thing about shopping at Smith's. (You must do this first before any other entries will count.)

Additional Entries:

Don't forget to leave a separate comment for each entry that includes an email address!

Giveaway is open to US residents only and closes, May 15th, 2010 at midnight MST.

Disclaimer: I received a $25 American Express gift card from Kroger, Inc. in order to purchase my reusable bag design from Cafe Press! Kroger is generously offering one lucky winner a $25 Cafe Press gift code so they can order their own bag design free of charge, as well. This was an unpaid review and the opinions here are expressly my own.
